I use this traditional medium of stained glass to deliver unconventional and unexpected imagery, hoping to offer the observer a re-imagined view of this vibrant classical art form. My work reflects my approach and attitude towards life. I welcome the organic process of the unplanned and I find beauty in the odd and unexpected. I do what I enjoy while I enjoy it, and go where the unforeseen opportunities take me.
At birth, each glass piece is unplanned and can go in a variety of directions before it is completed. Rather than following a preset design plan or pattern, I allow the breaks and patterns of the glass to develop into unexpected images and juxtapositions of color and texture. Often times satisfying mistakes are incorporated into a piece. This unstructured approach is absolutely essential because it leaves open the possibilities of discovering something authentic and amazing. As in life, accidents and odd turns in the glass become interesting creations.
My work is influenced by my intuition, instincts and general rebelliousness. While my subconscious impacts my glass profoundly, my inspiration for shapes, colors, forms, texture, and space comes from a variety of places; architecture, interior design, people, art, textiles, the environment, moods, and everyday objects. I am also deeply drawn to images that are playful, peculiar, and impulsive.
